Aston Villa are preparing for their second season in the Sky Bet Championship, and they will no doubt be hoping it is a far sight better than what unfolded last year.
The Villans struggled to get used to the second tier, and ultimately had to get rid of Roberto Di Matteo, turning to Steve Bruce to steady the ship, which he did to some extent towards the end of the season.
Our Villa fans here in the Tavern have seen a quieter transfer window this year than last season, where they splashed the cash to try and get their Premier League status back within only a year.
Our landlord though thinks the Villans have one more big spend in them, and one player he thinks could make a world of difference is Brentford midfielder Alan Judge.
The tricky little play-maker did not play last season after breaking his leg back in April 2016, but has undergone extra healing surgery to try and cement his return to football this coming season.
If Judge can return to the form he was showing before that injury, then he is a real class act, and arguably the best midfielder in the Championship. Although Villa have an abundance of talent in the midfield area, there is something about Judge which should draw them to him.
He won’t be cheap, but he has the ability to completely change games for his team, and can win them single handedly on his day. He would surely be a superb signing for Steve Bruce and Villa.
