Aston Villa target clinical Bundesliga striker in potential £10 million deal – report

Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern will be looking towards their play-off semi-final with Middlesbrough, but they will also be expecting the club to invest in new talent this summer regardless of what division they are in.

Steve Bruce’s side made a solid charge towards the end of the campaign, however, the absence of a prolific striker may have been the difference between a play-off spot and automatic promotion to the Premier League.

The Villans were not short of goals but they could have scored plenty more with a prolific striker spearheading their attack, and German media reports are claiming the Villa Park outfit could target one this summer.

According to Bild, Aston Villa are interested in bringing Niclas Fullkrug from Hannover  96 following his prolific season in the Bundesliga. The 25-year-old has netted 13 goals this year, with just 4 other players outscoring him in the division.

It is believed the Championship side will need to compete with a host of sides for his signature and it could cost them in the region of £10million to bring him to the Midlands.

Landlord’s Verdict

The Aston Villa fans in the Tavern will be excited that the club are targeting a striker, as they will feel that they cannot continue to rely on their midfielders to score the majority of the goals.

Jonathan Kodjia will be hoping he has overcome the worst of his injuries nightmares, however, there will be concerns over whether he can rediscover his best form, and a man like Fullkrug may be what they need to help them in the Premier League next season – should they get promoted through the play-offs of course.
