Seven straight wins in a row in the Championship have seen Aston Villa propel themselves into play-off contention. Bristol City will provide Dean Smith’s side with another challenging test at Villa Park, but the Villans will know a win could effectively seal their place with just a few games left to play.
However, the club will have to deal with some frustrating news ahead of the potential ‘six-pointer’ as they have been handed a blow ahead of the game.
What’s the News?
Smith will be without Tyrone Mings for the home clash against Bristol City with the defender suspended, according to a match preview by Sky Sports.
The Bournemouth loanee was sent off in their game against Rotherham United in midweek and will have to serve his one-match ban against the Robins.
Kortney Hause (hip) and Tommy Elphick (foot) are both struggling, although the latter of the duo has returned to training recently, as has James Chester, who has been out with knee trouble.
Mings’ suspension will come as a frustrating blow for Smith and Aston Villa as it could not have come at a worse time for the club. Bristol City are jostling for position with the Villans at the moment as both teams look to secure a place in the play-offs and are neck-and-neck.
The Bournemouth loanee has been nothing short of incredible for the Villa Park outfit since arriving in January, as he has helped to strengthen what was a leaky defence and helped the club turn their form around.
The 26-year-old has formed a formidable partnership at the back alongside Hause and the duo have looked unbreakable at times.
With some of Smith’s defenders all struggling with injuries at the moment, Mings’ absence will have left some concerns at the back as their options are rather depleted and that could give them some trouble against the Robins’ attack on Saturday afternoon.
Aston Villa fans, how frustrating is Mings’ suspension? Do you think it will affect your chances of winning on Saturday? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
