Aston Villa are still looking to improve their squad despite the transfer window being closed for almost a month.
The Villans are lacking players in the defensive areas and Steve Bruce had tried to solve those issues with additions, however, he failed to make the necessary movements.
However, it appears he could be heading into the free agent market with a former Premier League enforcer on his radar.
The 35-year-old is currently without a club after he was released from West Ham United earlier in the summer and Villa are keen to add experience to their backline.
The Championship outfit have just James Chester as their only recognised centre-back in the team after allowing Tommy Elphick to leave on a temporary deal.
The veteran defender could be a great addition to Aston Villa in the short-term, should he be able to prove his fitness.
The 35-year-old has proven that he can play at the top level of the game and would certainly have the experience to give the Villans a chance of winning promotion to the Premier League.
However, there is always a risk with a player who is advancing the latter stages of their career and Collins could prove to be too much of a concern to those at Villa Park, should he fail to live up to expectations.
