Aston Villa are looking for a new manager after they pulled the plug on Steve Bruce’s position on Wednesday evening.
The Villans had won just one game in their last 10 fixtures leading for fans to call for his name.
The Championship outfit have struggled to get going this season and the crazy 3-3 draw with rock-bottom Preston North End appeared to have been enough for the new owners to start making changes.
The newspaper is claiming that Rafa Benitez is being lined up with a possible move as his own future at Newcastle United remains a doubt.
The current Magpies boss’ contract expires in the summer and could look to leave the club should things at the Toon Army continue the way they are.
However, it is understood that a move could be difficult to happen, as Benitez and CEO Christian Purslow’s relationship is not the best, with the Spaniard citing it to be the reason why he left Liverpool.
Aston Villa have been linked with a few names already for the managerial job, however, none are as ambitious as Benitez’s.
The Spaniard has Championship experience, after guiding Newcastle back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
However, it remains to be seen if he will drop back down to the second tier, or if he will indeed leave the Magpies amid recent takeover possibilities.
