Aston Villa will be preparing for their Championship play-off charge, and fans in the Transfer Tavern will be expecting the team to challenge for a place in the final at Wembley Stadium at the end of the month.
Steve Bruce’s side will be considered one of the favourites to be promoted and, should they be able to get in the Premier League, then they will be able to attract a number of experienced men to Villa Park.
And, according to a report from The Daily Mirror, the Villans are rumoured to be interested in bringing Gareth Barry back to the club, this all after it has been revealed the midfielder can quit the Hawthorns should they lose their Premier League status.
The 37-year-old is the all-time leading appearance holder in the top-flight with 653 appearances, and would surely be welcomed back with open arms – yet any deal would reportedly be on the condition that Villa are playing in the Premier League next season.
The Baggies man is thought to be wanting to relocate permanently to the Midlands, and the opportunity of heading back to his former club could be the ideal situation in a bid to continue playing at the highest level of English football.
It is believed that the Villa Park outfit could also be prepared to offer Barry the opportunity to coach, and the locals would likely be delighted to see the club legend back.
Landlord’s Verdict: The Villa fans in the Tavern would be pleased to see Barry back at the club where he started his career, and they will be hoping they can have Premier League football at Villa Park next season as well.
