Aston Villa would be wise to target £9m-rated Liverpool man this summer to ensure promotion

The Aston Villa fans in and around the Transfer Tavern are understandably gutted having lost out on a top flight return after losing their play-off final to Fulham.

Many believed it would be a tight affair and that it was, but will Villa now be spurred on to improve – or are they stuck in the Championship for the foreseeable future? Well, our punters are hoping that Villa try and do all they can to improve, and the addition of Liverpool man Lazar Markovic could help their cause.

The Liverpool outcast was shipped out to the Belgian champions Anderlecht last season and after again struggling to cement a place in the side, his future continues to look uncertain.

From his time at Hull, Markovic showed that his pace, willingness to drive at defenders and threat on the goal is a terrific asset for a side like Aston Villa to have. With Robert Snodgrass unlikely to extend his stay at Villa Park, Markovic could be the perfect replacement for the Scotsman.

At only 24-years-old, Markovic still well and truly has the ability to find a permanent home to blossom in, which could well be Villa Park. With his £9 million valuation (via Transfer Markt), Villa could easily attempt to secure the winger this summer and it would be a good, early statement to signal that they are focused on returning to the Premier League next season.

Aston Villa must quickly forget the disappointment of not returning to the top flight this season and focus on getting it right now. The Villans are an established Premier League side that are getting ever closer to returning to their true home and the addition of Lazar Markovic would go a long way in helping that.
