Aston Villa’s financial troubles should prompt West Brom to move for Jonathan Kodjia

According to a recent interview with Sky Sports, Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce has admitted that striker Jonathan Kodjia could be sold this summer. The 28-year-old only made the move to Villa Park back in 2016 after impressing at Bristol City, yet the Villans’ well documented financial problems could force the Midlands giants into parting with some of their star assets this summer, one of which could be Kodjia.

And this recent admission from Villa chief Bruce should seriously interest West Brom manager Darren Moore, who should seek to take advantage of their plight by luring the £8.1 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) to the Hawthorns to spearhead their promotion push.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, the Baggies will be looking to bounce back immediately following their relegation from the Premier League last season, what with the Midlands club enduring a testing campaign in finishing bottom of the division.

And with the likes of Salomon Rondon and Jay Rodriguez having been linked with moves away this summer, manager Moore faces the very real prospect of heading into the 2018/19 Championship season short of striking options.

And that is why they should consider making a move for the supremely talented Kodjia, not only because they may get him slightly cheaper than they would usually, but also because he has repeatedly proven his credentials at Championship level.

The 28-year-old made the move to England back in 2015 by signing for second tier outfit Bristol City, for whom he excelled in the 2015/16 campaign by netting 18 goals in 45 Championship games for the Robins.

And with 19 goals in his first season at Villa back in 2016/17, it’s pretty clear that Kodjia knows exactly how to succeed in front of goal in the second tier, with his efforts equating to a goal every 203 minutes at Championship level.

Yes, he missed the vast majority of last season through injury, and as such that is likely to be of concern to West Brom fans, but one simply mustn’t forget his incredible goal-scoring prowess the seasons previous – and in a West Brom side seeking to bounce straight back, he’d surely flourish.

Thus, given Villa’s financial plight, Moore and the Baggies hierarchy must seek to raid their Midlands rivals for the 28-year-old, as he would be the perfect man to spearhead their promotion push this season.
