Aston Villa supporters have woken up to the news that Tyrone Mings is on his way to Villa Park ahead of a temporary loan switch, but it seems Dean Smith will be looking to add more than just one player to his squad by the end of play.

The 11PM deadline is looming and Villa are facing a race against time to conclude at least two deals.

Sky Sports confirmed this morning that Mings is on his way to the Midlands for a medical, but BBC Sport journalist Simon Stone believes they will also be looking to sign a midfielder.

Indeed, via his personal Twitter account, Stone confirmed that Mings is on his way to Villa for a medical, but he also suggested that they are in the market for an energetic midfielder.

Well, it's fair to say that Villa fans will be keeping a close eye on developments throughout the day as their side hunt for a new midfielder.

A report from Sky Sports on Wednesday revealed that Villa are interested in potential loan deals for either Isaac Hayden or Nathaniel Chalobah, and both players are matching the description of an energetic midfielder.

Hayden is lacking the guile and technical quality boasted by Chalobah, but he certainly possesses a level of energy in the middle of the park which will impress Smith.

With that in mind and Stone's tweet also to take under consideration, it seems likely that either one of the aforementioned midfielders could move to Villa before the deadline passes on Thursday evening.

Chalobah's huge level of untapped potential suggests he's the player Smith should be prioritising throughout the day, but his unfortunate record with injuries could yet swing the decision in Hayden's favour.
