Aston Villa picked up a vital three points in Dean Smith’s first game in charge as manager when they beat Swansea City at the weekend.
The Villans recorded a 1-0 victory, giving them just their fourth win in a largely disappointing season.
Smith was delighted with the team performance, especially given that they managed to keep a clean sheet in the game.
However, he has revealed that there are certain aspects to one man’s particular play that he feels can be improved and is prepared to try and help him.
The manager feels that despite the midfielder is an outstanding talent, he needs to improve when he does not have the ball and also getting into the penalty box.
“Jack probably saw me coming and thought ‘Brentford are a total footballing team’ yet all the work last week has been without the ball!” Smith told the Birmingham Mail.
“He has seen a different side.
“But that is part of his game that needs to get better…
“He is outstanding.
“I like the fact he was looking at getting into the penalty box on Saturday which is something I think he can improve upon.
“He doesn’t have the goals and assists someone of his talent should and that is for me and the coaching staff to help him work on.
“I am sure we will because I invite players to ask questions and he certainly asks questions.
“He has the desire to get better.”
There is no doubt that Grealish is a talented footballer, however, there is a sense that he could further improve his game.
At just 23-years-old, he has plenty of time on his side to make the improvements and turn into the player that many feel he will develop into.
With a new manager that has fresh ideas, and his own desire to learn and improve, it may not be too long before Grealish is in and amongst the goals for the Villans, which will then help them move up the Championship table.
