Aston Villa will be extremely disappointed with yesterday’s result as they threw away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 against Leeds United.
The Villains have definitely turned a corner under Dean Smith as they’ve displayed moments of quality in recent times, despite Jack Grealish’s absence. And, it appears as if the Villa boss will welcome a summer loan departure back to the club, as according to The Sunday People (23/12; page 50) (via HITC), Smith has decided that he wants to bring Tommy Elphick back from his loan spell at Hull City.
Dean Smith has decided that he wants to bring Tommy Elphick back from his loan spell at Hull City in January.
Indeed, the 31-year-old struggled to work his way into Steve Bruce’s plans towards the start of the season, which forced him into moving out on loan.
But, Villa are currently lacking options at the back and Elphick has been very impressive at the KCOM stadium, so he could play a big part in the second half of the season.
Aston Villa will definitely benefit from bringing Elphick back to Villa Park as he has the ability to ensure defensive solidity and can be a real nuisance for the opposition from set-pieces.
James Chester is really starting to come on leaps and bounds this season but he hasn’t been able to produce a settled partnership, with James Bree being deployed at the heart of the defence against Leeds recently.
