Everton & Sunderland interested as Aston Villa open transfer talks

Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited by news that loan signing Sam Johnstone could be joining the club in a permanent deal.

Steve Bruce brought the Manchester United youngster to Villa Park in January and he’s since gone on to make 13 Championship appearances, registering 26 saves and keeping an impressive five clean sheets.

According to The Telegraph, his fine run of form between the sticks has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs, namely Bournemouth, Everton and Sunderland.

Everton punters in the Tavern would like to see a new glovesman arrive this summer, having been unconvinced by Joel Robles and Maarten Stekelenburg’s performances this season, whilst Sunderland supporters in the beer celler fear losing promising youngster Jordan Pickford – especially if they drop out of the top flight.

However, Villa gaffer Bruce has already opened talks with the Red Devils over a permanent deal and is keen to persuade Jose Mourinho – who reportedly rates the 24-year-old – into letting him stay at Villa Park.

The Birmingham outfit, who have endured a difficult season in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League, want to make Johnstone their long-term No.1 and are hoping to agree a deal before the end of the campaign.
