The large section of lager drinking Aston Villa pundits present in the Transfer Tavern have been speculating as to who their next manager might be with many intriguing names thrown into the mix.
Possibly the most intriguing of the lot is that of former Villa talisman Dwight Yorke, who has told Alan Brazil’s Sport Breakfast Show on talkSPORT, that he would be keen to take up the position.
Yorke scored 73 goals in 232 games during his 10-year stint at Villa Park and he has offered his thoughts as to why he should be the man tasked with lifting the club away from the foot of the Premier League.
Villa are beginning their search for a predecessor for Tim Sherwood who was relieved of his managerial duties yesterday and Yorke is keen to take over the mantle. He said:
“People will say I don’t have the experience, but we’ve seen people with experience go in there and struggle to do a job. I know that club inside out and I have looked at the squad, there’s enough in there to get them out of this position, and there is enough time too.”
One punter tucking into a beer and a burger in the Tavern thinks the West Midlands-based club could do a lot worse than pursue Yorke. He said:
“Dwight has been around football for years and he is right, he does know the football club inside out. Someone who can relate to the supporters’ feelings could be ideal.”
Aston Villa fans… Would Yorke’s lack of experience count against him? Who do you want as your next manager? Can the club stay up this season? Let us know in the comments below!
