A couple of West Ham fans have entered the Football Transfer Tavern today equipped with a radio to listen out for their team’s progress against Reading and they have been alerted to a rumour from talkSPORT that claims Sam Allardyce is interested in Aston Villa’s forgotten man Stephen Warnock.
It has been well documented that the Hammers currently lack options at left back with George McCartney on the side lines with a long-term lay off and Joey O’Brien being currently asked to play there out of position.
Therefore, a move for Stephen Warnock would represent sensible transfer business this January and the former Liverpool and Blackburn full back has just completed a stint on loan in the Championship with Bolton Wanderers after being frozen out by Paul Lambert at Aston Villa.
Warnock played under Allardyce during his spell at Blackburn and it is understood that the player would jump at a chance to reunite with his former boss while continuing to play football in the top flight.
West Ham could face competition from Dougie Freedman’s Bolton however who want the left back permanently following an impressive stint at the Reebok Stadium so far this campaign.
