Houllier Will Bid £10M But Redknapp Won’t Budge

Aston Villa fans maybe wishing this season would hurry up and finish so they can forget all about it. The sudden departure of Martin O’Neil at the start through their season into turmoil and the Irishman’s replacement Gerard Houllier has hardly had much luck changing things around. However one bright spark this season has been the form of Kyle Walker who Houllier wants to bring to Villa Park on a full time basis.

The right-back has been impressive since joining on loan in January, so much so that he has earned himself an England call up for the qualifier against Wales and the friendly against Ghana.

Houllier is prepared to offer Tottenham £10 million to secure the full back as he seeks put his own stamp on the Villa first team. This would offer Spurs a good return on the 20 year old they signed from Sheffield United just under two years ago for reported £4 million.

Walker might consider a move to the Midlands Club given the guarantee of a place in the first team and the chance of future England call ups. Should he end up back at Spurs next season he will face tough competition for a right back spot with Alan Hutton and Vedran Corluka also vying for that position.

One stumbling block to the deal is Spurs manager Harry Redknapp who is has no interest in letting Walker go at the end of the season. “Kyle will be back here for sure, he’s still learning and got miles to learn but he is a talent, a real prospect,” Redknapp said last month. “He has got all the attributes to be an England right-back of the future. He’ll come back here and push for a place.”

This transfer may come down to the player himself because despite Redknapp’s praise for the youngster, he may feel that to become a future England right back he may have to move from White Hart Lane in order to do so.
