Aston Villa were handed a significant boost in their promotion hopes last week with Tammy Abraham deciding to stay at the club.

The striker on loan from Chelsea has set the Championship alight this season after joining the Villans on a temporary deal in the summer. The 21-year-old has already found the back of the net 16 times this season prompting interest from Premier League side Wolves who were keen on luring the Englishman to Molineux. Fortunately for Villa, Abraham rejected their advances and will remain at Villa Park until the end of the season.

Dean Smith can now begin to build his squad around the former Swansea forward now the transfer window is officially open. Bringing in quality reinforcements could be just what the club needs to secure a place in the playoffs in May.

One man who should be on Smith’s shortlist is Newcastle outcast – Isaac Hayden. Valued at £6.3m by Transfermarkt, the 23-year-old joined the club from Arsenal back in 2016 and is held in high regard by Rafael Benitez. However, the midfielder stated his intention (as per the Chronicle) to leave the club for personal reasons in the summer and his wish may be granted now the window is open yet again – Villa would be the perfect home.

Hayden has a fantastic range of passing, capable of keeping the ball short as well as switching the play long. The Englishman also possesses excellent technical ability and rarely loses possession when on the ball. Hayden is extremely versatile, able to play higher up the field in an attacking midfield role or deeper into a midfield three making him a brilliant option for Smith to have at his disposal.

The former Arsenal U21 captain would prove to be a wonderful signing for the promotion hopefuls.
