It’s shocking how bad these 2 Aston Villa players have actually been this season - Aston Villa

Aston Villa’s season has been one disappointment after another, from the start and more than likely to the end.

Steve Bruce started at the helm of Villa’s third year in the Championship but was given his marching orders at the beginning of October following an incredibly poor run of games.

Now, the job has fallen to Dean Smith to revive the club’s chances of reaching the play-off spots.

However, with Villa still performing pretty woefully, and the league looking as competitive as ever, there will need to be some significant change in fortune for them to even have a sniff at promotion.

Certainly one of the most important things for Smith is to get certain players actually turning up on matchday, as opposed to consistently putting in performances that belong in pub football.

With that said, here are two individuals that have really let fans and themselves down this season…

Anwar El Ghazi

We’ve already commented¬†on how poor el Ghazi has been this season, and since then things haven’t improved.

His lethargic approach to almost everything he does on the pitch is downright frustrating to watch.

Villa are in a position where every player is required to put in maximum effort to rescue the club from their current lull, and if one player isn’t pulling their weight then the whole system comes down.

Indeed, El Ghazi looks like a man who is on loan – carrying himself in a way that suggests he doesn’t care about the badge he’s temporarily representing, knowing full well that he’ll be returning to his parent club at the end of the season.

Yannick Bolasie

There were high hopes for Bolasie when he dropped down from the Premier to play for Villa this season on loan from Everton. Unfortunately, however, as quick as those hopes and dreams had developed, they were also dashed.

Bolasie, in all truth, has been pretty terrible for Villa so far. He consistently loses the ball, fails in his duty to create chances from the wing, and looks a shadow of the player he was at Crystal Palace.

There’s a very good reason Bolasie is either left out of matchday squads or forced to sit on the bench, and enough time watching him play reveals exactly why fans shouldn’t trust a name on paper over actual performances.
