Aston Villa are in the midst of a clear-out as they attempt to generate cash with the club in a financial mess.

And the latest name to be linked with a move away from Villa Park is Ivorian striker Jonathan Kodjia.

The Breakdown

According to the Express and Star, both Newcastle United and Leeds United are looking to take advantage of Villa's tricky financial predicament by signing Kodjia for a relatively low fee.

The Ivory Coast international spent most of last season out injured; however, he is an important goalscorer for the club and even with the current dilemma surrounding manager Steve Bruce and owner Tony Xia, Kodjia's potential departure is likely to enrage some Villa supporters.

Nevertheless, Aston Villa are in desperate need of money and Kodjia is likely to be one of many more causalities at Villa Park.

With that in mind, the Villans are going to need a replacement should Kodjia depart as expected and one low-cost option that Bruce must assess is Liverpool's £9m-rated (via Transfermarkt) Dominic Solanke.

Solanke struggled for game time at Anfield last season with Mohammed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane all in unplayable form, and the 20-year-old could now be made available for loan.

Solanke is yet to impose himself at senior level, but he was one of the top performers in England's U20 World Cup winning squad. And like former team-mate Tammy Abraham, who scored 23 Championship goals for Bristol City during his time in English football's second division, Solanke was an excellent goalscorer in various Chelsea youth teams.
