Aston Villa will be right in thinking that, with some inspired signings during the January transfer window, they could be surging back into the Premier League.
Yes, that might be jumping the gun a bit but Villa’s squad is full of the right ingredients that will allow them to gain promotion – an opinion many believe.
With a healthy mix of youth, experience, goals and clean-sheets, Aston Villa have been on a complete revival under Dean Smith.
The former Brentford manager has overseen tremendous changes in the short time he has been there and with a transfer window upcoming, there could be even more chopping and changing.
Villa’s problematic area would arguably be their versatility in defence and lack of cover. Neil Taylor is the only out-and-out left-back at the club so the Villans could make a sensible January signing in the form of Watford defender Marvin Zeegelaar.
Zeegelaar, who is valued at £2.7 million on Transfermarkt, has yet to play a single game for Watford this season and remains frozen at Vicarage Road.
A move will surely happen sooner rather than later, despite the Dutchman being reliable for the Premier League side in his 13 appearances last season.
Aston Villa would surely gladly move for a consistent defender, who is also capable of playing further forward as a left-midfielder.
At 28, time is against Marvin Zeegelaar and playing will be the most important thing for the defender. If he can prove a better option than Neil Taylor, Zeegelaar could be the change at the back that leads to Villa’s rise back into the Premier League.
Would Zeegelaar be a good signing… Let us know!
