Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern will be disappointed that they did not achieve promotion to the Premier League this summer and could be in for a summer full of change following the failure.
The Villans were beaten by Fulham at Wembley Stadium and are now expected to let a number of players to leave Villa Park this summer as they will need to comply with Financial Fair Play rules. However, according to some reports, it may not just be the players that are set to depart.
The Sun are claiming that owner Dr Tony Xia could be preparing to sell the club to a consortium of businessmen led by fitness entrepreneur and former football agent Matt Southall. The Chinese owner bought the club in 2016 from Randy Lerner following their relegation for Premier League, however, he is now ready to sell having failed to take the club back to the top-flight within two years.
Despite Xia being a Villa fan, he is also a businessman that knows he will need to do something extravagant if the club are to avoid repercussions from the Financial Fair Play rules. It is thought that he may be prepared to sell the Villans for the price he paid, however, the locals in the Tavern will be disappointed if he did decide to leave after showing huge amounts of investment into the club.
