‘Needs to start, ‘Good news’ – Aston Villa fans feeling pleased with club’s update

The Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to their club’s latest injury update. The Birmingham club tweeted the news that Birkir Bjarnason would be fit to face Middlesbrough tomorrow as they play their first leg of their play-off semi-final. Villa missed out on an automatic promotion spot after finishing 4th, although they’ll be optimistic of going up through the play-offs.

Bjarnason, who’s picked up the nickname ‘Thor’, for his long blonde hair and Icelandic background, has been a key feature in the Villains season despite playing only half of their games in the Championship. In his 23 appearances, he’s registered three goals and two assists from all across Villa’s midfield. The versatile midfielder can play on either flank and in the middle of the park and has been incredible when he’s played, despite spending a lot of time on the bench and out of the squad with injury.

Now though, the midfielder is back fit and could be thrown a start at The Riverside as Villa travel for the play-offs. If Steve Bruce’s side can secure a win in the Northeast, their job at Villa Park will be made much easier and they can start planning for a Wembley final against either Fulham or Derby, who play the first leg of their play-off semi-final at Pride Park tonight. Bjarnason and co will be watching on as they hope to meet of the two sides at Wembley on the 26th May in football’s most expensive game.
