Aston Villa have been far from good enough in recent times as they continue to slip further away from a play-off spot, with only one win in their last six Championship fixtures.
Dean Smith has worked wonders since taking over at Villa Park but things just haven’t gone to plan in recent times, which has put more impetus on the January transfer window.
Although, the month of January could make things even worse as potential key departures and missing out on transfer targets could cause major problems.
With that in mind, here is the nightmare January for Aston Villa…
DEAN SMITH FALLS SHORT IN TRANSFER PURSUITS
Dean Smith will have his sights set on securing a number of signings this month, with a play-off place at stake.
The Villains are thought to be interested in securing the services of Romaine Sawyers, while a replacement for Tammy Abraham may be required at the same time, so there’s added pressure on the shoulders of Smith.
Indeed, failing to strengthen at left-back, the pinnacle of the attack and in the heart of the midfield would leave the Villains in a worrying position.
TAMMY ABRAHAM LEAVES
Tammy Abraham has been simply sensational for Aston Villa in the current campaign, with 16 goals to his name in 20 appearances in the Championship.
But, Wolverhampton Wanderers are believed to be interested in securing his services this month, which would mean that Villa are left with a huge void at the pinnacle of the attack.
Sadly, Abraham’s potential departure could bring Villa’s promotion hopes crashing down as he has been their main source of goals in the current campaign.
