Aston Villa have been one of the form teams in the Championship in recent times as they’ve won their last five games, which has pushed them up into fifth position.
The Villans are showing that they have what it takes to challenge for promotion via the play-offs this season as Dean Smith continues to get the very best out of his players.
Indeed, the Swansea City man has established himself as a star at the Liberty Stadium in the current campaign, so here are the potential consequences of Villa signing him…
DEAN SMITH LANDS TYRONE MINGS REPLACEMENT
Tyrone Mings has proved to be one of the signings of the January transfer window in the Championship as he’s cured Villa’s defensive issues completely, with Kortney Hause working perfectly alongside him.
However, according to the Mirror (via Birmingham Live), Southampton may move for Mings in the summer transfer window which could put Villa’s chances of signing him to bed, especially if promotion isn’t secured.
Therefore, bringing in Mike van der Hoorn could prove crucial as he would be the perfect replacement for the Englishman, with his strength, tackling and aerial ability making him almost impossible to get past.
TOMMY ELPHICK WORRIED
Aston Villa have managed to win four games on the bounce without Tommy Elphick in the squad, which could be saying something as they only managed to win two out of 10 league games with him in the side prior to his absence.
Of course, with Tyrone Mings and Kortney Hause returning to their parent clubs in the summer it would be great for Villa to welcome Mike van der Hoorn to Villa Park. But, this could worry Elphick as he’s been pushed out of the side before and Smith would inevitably line up with Van der Hoorn and James Chester next season.
