Our Newcastle and Aston Villa fans here in the Transfer Tavern are starting to throw jibes at one another ahead of their game on Monday and, with Micky Quinn’s quotes in mind, things are certainly getting heated.
The two Championship sides head into the game at St. James’ Park on Monday night on the back of very contrasting fortunes up until now.
The Magpies are challenging for the title whilst Villa are just looking to get some solidarity back after a poor run in a game that should be a captivating encounter.
There’s plenty of recent bad blood between the two sides, too, which goes back to when Villa celebrated the north-east side going down at the end of the 2008/09 season as well as at the end of last year.
That still hurts for ex-player and Magpies fan Quinn who wrote in his recent article for Chronicle Live:
“Newcastle United still owe Aston Villa one.
“I, like most Newcastle fans, will never forget those Villa fans celebrating the 0-0 draw at Villa Park last May which all-but condemned the Magpies to relegation.”
Bold words from Quinn, then, who clearly has one thing in mind when the two clubs meet on Monday – revenge.
The two sides’ rivalry has continued this season with both arguing that their club is the biggest in the Championship and so we could be in for a firecracker the other side of this weekend.
