The Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern are dreaming of winning promotion back to the Premier League this season but they know that there must be improvements up front. Ideally, the Villains need to bring in another striker this month to give them the best possible chance of sealing promotion back to the top flight.
Aston Villa have been desperately lacking fire power this season with last season’s main marksman Jonathan Kodjia missing most of the season through injury and then looking half fit when he did play. The Ivorian only has one goal to his name this term with the other strikers also struggling in front of goal.
Keinan Davis has enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season but has only found the net three times; Gabby Agbonlahor has one goal; Scott Hogan’s tally of four goals is disappointing considering his price tag.
A new striker in January would help Aston Villa score more goals and push up the league table towards the automatic promotion spots. This should be Steve Bruce’s priority and he will be scouring the market for attacking talent.
Perhaps Villa should take a punt on Alfredo Morelos of Rangers. The 21-year-old only joined the Scottish side this summer from HJK Helsinki but he has already struck ten goals in the Scottish Premiership, ranking him as the top scorer in that division.
While the Colombian youth international is far from the finished product, he is still very young and a raw talent with an eye for goal. Although he seems invested in the Rangers product, it will only be a matter of time before he looks for a move to one of Europe’s big leagues and Aston Villa can offer him the prospect of possibly reaching the Premier League next season.
