Aston Villa have been struggling from day one this season and even with Dean Smith in charge, the club aren’t showing many signs of improvement.
The Villans on paper have a strong bunch of players but the truth is they just haven’t delivered.
Whilst sat around mid-table, Dean Smith and his management team have a big job on their hands if they’re to get Villa playing and most importantly winning again.
Most importantly at this stage, they need to rectify their poor defensive record and tighten up at the back.
With John Terry involved with the management team, he will know exactly how to get Villa organised and turning to Tommy Elphick, who is currently out on-loan from Villa, would be a smart idea at this stage.
Although this may not be the glamorous names Villa are used to bringing in, Elphick is a defender in top form and could revive his Aston Villa career with good performances upon returning.
The 31-year-old has been massively important for Hull so far this season, with a string of impressive displays.
Apart from one, he has played a full ninety minutes for Hull every game and that is massively important considering his age.
Right now, game-time is invaluable and Aston Villa are so short on defensive cover that Tommy Elphick can believe he has a space waiting for him back at Villa Park.
