Aston Villa would like to believe that with how strong their squad is, they still remain in with a shot at gaining promotion this season.
After suffering a terrible run of form at the start of the season, Dean Smith has done extremely well to get the Villans back in sight of the play-off places.
Of course, the play-offs didn’t prove to be successful last season but, with another attempt this time around, Villa could be Premier League bound.
That is only if they invest more money into their squad during the January transfer window. A player that manager Dean Smith will be very familiar with is Brentford’s Romaine Sawyers and despite the talent in midfield already, he is an option that will bring even more to Villa Park.
Sawyers, who is valued at £2.7 million on Transfermarkt, has been vital in everything good Brentford have done this year.
Currently, Sawyers occupies the captain’s armband, something he was rewarded with due to his commitment for the team and ability to change a game.
Dean Smith has signed Romaine Sawyers twice before and it wouldn’t be at all surprising if he made another move to bring the 27-year-old to Villa Park.
Brentford have been on a downward spiral ever since Smith left but Sawyers continues to perform, arguably putting himself in the shop window.
With the squad that Aston Villa already have, it’s hard to imagine how Romaine Sawyers would get straight in the team but having worked with Dean Smith before, the pair know what each-other are all about.
Sawyers is a creative spark that across the remaining Championship games, would provide great competition and the flair Villa need to gain promotion this season.
