Ross McCormack doubts he’ll be back at Aston Villa

Despite the change of management at Villa Park, one Aston Villa man has revealed he does not think things will have changed for him.

Ross McCormack fell out with former manager Steve Bruce with a public bust-up and headed out to Australia to join up with Melbourne City last season.

He made a return to the A-League this year as well, this time on a season-long loan deal with the Central Gold Coast Mariners.

With Dean Smith now at the helm, the attacker does not believe there will be a change in his circumstances at the Championship side and admitted he would be surprised if it did.

“I can’t see it, to be honest,” he told the Sydney Morning Herald.

“That ship’s probably sailed, but it’s hard to say. I’ve still got another year left after this season, so you can never say never. I’d probably be surprised if that changed something for me.”

The Verdict:

McCormack is probably right that his time at Aston Villa is up, despite the arrival of Smith as the new coach.

The Scotland international failed to play a Championship match for the Villans in over 18 months and has also made his feelings known about the fans at the club recently, via the Daily Mail.

The 32-year-old will undoubtedly be looking to replicate his impressive form from his time with Melbourne for the Mariners and will hope to secure a permanent move away from Villa Park with his efforts.
