Aston Villa are definitely heading in the right direction under Dean Smith as they continue to push towards securing a play-off spot this season.
The Villains looked less than convincing under the guidance of Steve Bruce in the current campaign, but there’s all the more reason to be positive with results starting to go Villa’s way.
However, with the January transfer window right around the corner, Nassef Sawiris and Smith will already have a number of players in mind to boost their chances of securing a play-off place.
All of the pressure is on Sawiris as he could come under fire if he doesn’t get things spot on.
With that in mind, Sawiris would be digging himself into an Aston Villa grave by not signing these TWO players…
Callum Hudson-Odoi was one of Chelsea’s standout performers during pre-season but he hasn’t been able to enjoy many minutes in the first team this season.
Indeed, the Englishman has plenty of potential and the ability to trouble any defence with his pace and skills, with a move to the Championship helping his development massively.
So, with a lack of minutes halting his progress in the current campaign, perhaps the Villains should look to bring him to Villa Park by making use of John Terry’s links.
It’s evident that Aston Villa need to bring in a new goalkeeper, and someone like Tom Heaton could provide the perfect option. He’s got bags of experience, and he has been a regular for Burnley over the years, but the arrival of Joe Hart is sure to make things difficult for him.
At 32-years-old, he’ll want to be playing every week, and he’d certainly get the game time that he craves at Villa Park.
He’s a leader and a veteran of the game, and he’s still quality between the sticks, and as Villa look to push back into the play-off spots, he’s the sort of January addition that could really help take them to the next level.
Not a long-term solution, of course, but he could be the ideal addition for the rest of the campaign.
