Aston Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern will be looking towards their next match with Norwich City as they continue their charge for promotion back to the Premier League and will have been boosted by the return of a fan favourite.
The Villans were held to a 0-0 draw with Hull City in their last fixture, however, the return of Jonathan Kodjia delighted a number of the locals, as he returned to action for the first time in six months.
The Ivory Coast international came on as a second-half substitute and got half-an-hour under his belt, and Steve Bruce is keen to keep things slow and steady as he makes his comeback to the side.
“We’re playing catch-up with him,” he told the Birmingham Mail.
“So it’s a case of, can he give us a spark off the bench? It was a lot to ask at the weekend.
“You can see that he’s short at the moment and why wouldn’t he be?
“He’s had a re-operation after the original one in the summer (on his ankle) so we’ll go easy with him that’s for sure.”
Villa will be hoping he can return to the form he showed before he suffered the broken ankle and the further setback, as they look to consolidate their place in a playoff spot and hope Cardiff City slip up in the final automatic spot. As you can imagine, these are nervous times at Villa Park and the punters propping up our bar would love to have their star forward available to help their cause.
The Villa fans in the Tavern will be delighted that Kodjia has returned to the matchday squad and could make an impact from the bench at a crucial time in the season. The Ivorian scored 19 goals in his debut year at Villa Park and the locals will be hoping he can use that firepower in the remaining few games of the season to secure a return to the Premier League.
Aston Villa fans, how do you feel about Bruce’s plans to use Kodjia from the bench? Let us know below!
