It has been a season to forget so far for the Aston Villa fans in the Football Transfer Tavern…
Despite spending close to £50 million in the summer, the Roberto Di Matteo led outfit has faltered to 19th in the Championship – with a relegation battle looming for the once-Premier League side.
This lead to the unfortunate inevitability of Di Matteo’s sacking, with the news confirmed by Aston Villa earlier today.
As soon as the departure was announced, the punters in the Football Transfer Tavern began speculating about who could take over the reigns – and some interesting suggestions were shouted across the room.
Three names stuck out in particular…
Steve Bruce, who has the experience at this level – and more importantly the experience to get out of the league and beyond.
Lee Johnson, who has impressed for Bristol City – and is a favourite amongst the Tavern punters.
And then you have the wildcard – Tim Sherwood. The ex-Tottenham boss has yet to prove himself at the highest level; but could be an interesting solution in the short term.
Three very interesting choices – but who is best suited?
