Aston Villa have already made a number of signings so far this January, but were still on the wrong side of a drubbing at the hands of Wigan at the weekend.
The Villans did not manage a shot on target at the DW Stadium on Saturday, and only managed four in total, as Dean Smith’s men were poor from front to back.
The match did, however, provide Smith a chance to give new signing Kortney Hause his first appearance. The loan from Wolves was introduced into the game with 30 minutes remaining, but did not change The Lions’ fortunes.
In fact, it was a debut to forget for the 23-year-old as he looked severely out of touch and behind the pace. The England under-21 international played a total of four games for Wolves over the past 18 months, as he has been ravaged by injury. So it is understandable if he is struggling slightly. But what this does suggest is that Aston Villa will not be able to rely on him for a while.
The Villans have a serious dearth of centre-backs, and while the arrival of Hause has improved the situation at the club, there is no guarantee as to how much he can give the club over the coming months. Smith would be wise in going back into the transfer market and trying to recruit another centre-back. Bringing in another player will just offer some reassurance at the back, and will allow Hause plenty of time to work his way back into form for the end of the season.Like what the TT have on offer?
