Aston Villa’s under-fire manager Alex McLeish is chasing in-demand Dutch striker Bas Dost, reports the Daily Mirror.
The 22-year-old Heerenveen player is the top golascorer in the Dutch league this season with 22 goals to date. He scored all five goals in his side’s 5-0 away victory at Excelsior in December
The real problem facing Villa is the less than dynamic approach the club has taken to planning for the now, let alone the future. Every twist and turn of the Barclays Premier League appears to take them by surprise.
Alex McLeish was in the press as Robbie Keane cleared off lamenting his departure. Without being unkind, we all knew this was happening seconds after the Villans signed him in the first instance and not getting on with things and pondering just comes across as naive in the extreme.
Is it all McLeish’s fault? Probably not. But managers these days need to be dynamic. Or if they aren’t, then they need to know the right time to keep quiet or they could talk themselves into a sack race.
Villa will face stiff competition for Dost’s signature however. Valencia have identified him as a replacement for their much coveted striker Roberto Soldado.
