The damning set of stats that suggest Steve Bruce has improved nothing at Aston Villa

Our Aston Villa fans here in the Transfer Tavern have lost the faith they had that they would make the play-offs this season and now they’re hoping to just stay in the division.

When Steve Bruce came in the initial improvement in form was pretty promising but things have taken a poor turn since and now the club needs to be careful it doesn’t sleepwalk into that League 1 trapdoor.

Many here by the bar thought that Bruce would avoid that for sure this season but the recent form stats suggest that, actually, things seem to have got worse under the former Wigan boss.

Using stats The Guardian used for a piece on Villa’s woes, it’s clear to see that the club are actually in worse shape at the moment than what they were under Roberto Di Matteo at the start of his tenure.

The Villans have lost a greater percentage of their last eleven games under Bruce than the first eleven under Di Matteo (63.6% compared to 27.3%.) They’ve also conceded more goals per game (1.5 to 1.1), scored less per game (0.9 to 0.7), had worse possession stats (51.2% to 48.3%) and all round look less confident in what they’re doing.

Alarming times for our local Villa fans, then, with them just seven points clear of the relegation zone.
