Aston Villa’s already turbulent season continued this week as they finally took the decision to sack manager Steve Bruce.
The Villans have put in some poor performances this term under Bruce, and he has ultimately paid the price with his job, much to the pleasure of a big section of Villa fans it would seem.
Things will now need to move on and quickly at Villa Park, and it will be key that the club’s board act fast and get a replacement in ASAP.
Whoever takes on the job will be inheriting an excellent squad to work with however, with some quality players in all positions meaning the Midlanders should well be up there at the end of the season if they can get their act together.
However, there are a few players within the squad who could well look to move on in January, and one man we think needs to be looking to do this is central defender James Chester.
The £7.2m-rated Welshman has been a mainstay of the Villa first XI for some time now, and has proved to be a shrewd signing ever since making his move to the club from West Brom a few seasons back. Chester will no doubt be looking at the situation at Villa Park at the moment and wondering whether he can do better, and he certainly can, with a whole host of Premier League clubs bound to be interested in taking him on.
Chester is a quality operator, proven at the top level, and while he’d be a big loss for Villa, he would benefit from a move to the top flight for his own career.
Villa fans, what do you think? Do you think Chester will move on? Let us know in the comments!
