Aston Villa will no doubt look to bring players to Villa Park in the January transfer window, however, they may not have to work too hard in finding new signings.
It is well documented that the defence is an area of concern for Dean Smith, with just James Chester and Axel Tuanzebe his only recognised centre-backs.
However, it appears he may have been handed a boost in January, as Hull City boss Nigel Adkins has revealed the Villans could recall Tommy Elphick from his loan deal.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Radio Humberside (19 minutes), he was asked if Aston Villa could be recalled and said: “Yes. We’ll have to wait and see.”
He further added that the arrival of Smith as the new manager threw up a number of questions and did not know what the future held in regards to keeping Elphick.
“They’ve got a new manager now, what are they want to go and do? Will Tommy want to go back there or will Tommy want to stay with us? Who knows?” he said.
“We’ll have to cross that bridge when we come to it. I’m led to believe there is a recall in it.”
The news that Elphick could be recalled by Aston Villa in January will be huge news, as it will mean they will be able to find some suitable cover without having to spend on another player.
The defender, who was loaned out by Steve Bruce, has been performing well for Hull, however, the Villans have been keeping tabs on his performances at the KCOM Stadium in the past.
It remains to be seen if whether he will be recalled, however, at this moment, it would appear as a no-brainer for Aston Villa to invoke that clause, should it exist in the agreement with the Tigers.
