Tommy Elphick not keen on Aston Villa return

Aston Villa are expected to head into the January transfer window with the task of adding defenders to their squad.

Dean Smith inherited a side that has just two recognised senior centre-backs in James Chester and Axel Tuanzebe and is keen to add cover to that area of the pitch.

There has been talk that he could look to cut the loan deal of Hull City’s Tommy Elphick and bring the experienced player back to Villa Park.

However, that does not appear to be what the player wants to happen.

According to a report by The Hull Daily Mail, Elphick is thought to be keen on remaining at the KCOM Stadium as he continues to feature regularly for The Tigers.

The defender has found life difficult at Villa Park during his two-and-a-half-year spell there, having only started a handful of games, whilst he has become a key player for Nigel Adkins side.

The Verdict:

Villa are desperate to add defenders to their squad in January and will likely look to try and sign new players in the winter transfer market.

There is a feeling that the Villans will not end Elphick’s current loan with Hull City prematurely, whilst it also appears that the 31-year-old is not keen on that idea either.

However, if Smith is unable to make the necessary additions in the transfer window, the defender may have no choice but to make a return to Villa Park.
