TT Battle: Che Adams vs Tammy Abraham

Birmingham City will be looking to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat to Hull City when they take on rivals Aston Villa in the Championship at St. Andrew’s this Sunday.

Garry Monk’s men will also have the chance to gain some sweet revenge after losing the previous Second City derby 4-2 back in November.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa have the chance to build on their emphatic 4-0 win over Derby County when they take to the St. Andrew’s pitch.

With that in mind, here are two players who both Monk and Dean Smith are likely to be pinning their hopes on on the day.

Che Adams

While it was a quiet afternoon for Adams against Hull at the KC Stadium last Saturday, overall, the 22-year-old has been a bright spark in the Championship this season.

He is one of the leading goalscorers in English football’s second division with 21 goals to his name, goals which have helped Birmingham to enter the frame for Premier League promotion.

With so many other strong outfits in the Championship this term, though, going all the way may just prove to be too much of a difficult task for the Midlands club.

But be it with Birmingham or another team, Adams looks destined for the Premier League come August.

The former England U20 international attracted strong interest from the likes of Burnley and Southampton (Sky Sports) back in January, and it would not be a surprise to see them come in again for the pacey striker in the summer.

Tammy Abraham

Like Adams, Abraham has been in fine form this season with the 21-year-old registering the same amount of league goals as his Birmingham counterpart.

Abraham, on loan from Chelsea, also attracted Premier League interest during January with Wolves having been desperate to add him to their squad (BBC Sport).

Luckily for Aston Villa, though, he opted to remain at Villa Park and has continued to find the back of net as his club look to finish the campaign strongly.

And there is no reason why they cannot do just that with a No.9 such as the England international at their disposal.

Abraham, with his ability to constantly take up dangerous positions in the box and calmly finish, should be able to maintain his hot streak in front of goal until the end of the season.

TT Grade: A-

TT Verdict:

There is not much separating Adams and Abraham with the two strikers both in excellent form this campaign.

All things considered, the Aston Villa and Birmingham No.9s look capable of making that step up to the Premier League where they have the ability to make real names for themselves.

As for now, Adams and Abraham are the ones who could make the difference in the upcoming Second City derby.
