Aston Villa

TT Battle: Yannick Bolasie vs Pablo Hernandez

Aston Villa host Leeds this weekend in a game between two giants of the Championship who are looking to return to the Premier League.

After Norwich City dropped points against Bristol City, Leeds went top of the league and will need to keep up their run of good form in order to maintain space between themselves and the chasing pack.

Villa meanwhile are just three points off the playoff places and have been a team reborn under former Brentford boss, Dean Smith.

Yannick Bolasie

A tricky and skilful winger, there’s no doubt that Bolasie is one of the most talented players in the country when he’s fit and firing.

When he made the move to Everton, he was coming off one of his best seasons for Palace during his time in south London. He scored five goals while also creating four in 26 games for Palace and therefore if Smith can keep him fit, he could have a player that pushes Villa towards the title.

Signed on loan for the season, it took some time for Bolasie to settle into the club but with Adomah’s injury, he has found himself inserted into the first-team. Now under a good run in the first-team and with a superb attacking manager, Bolasie has registered four assists and looks like he’s just returning to form.

If he can stay fit, Villa could’ve pulled off a superb deal.

TT Grade: B-

Pablo Hernandez

He may not get the headlines of other players but Pablo Hernandez is essential to Leeds United and is arguably one of the best players in the division. He doesn’t have express pace but his footballing intelligence is superb and technically he’s one of the best.

Under Marcelo Bielsa the Spaniard is having his best year since he’s come to England and has already equalled last season’s goal tally of seven. Moreover, he’s also already registered five assists this year despite missing time due to injury.

Considering that Hernandez was initially signed on a six-month loan deal, it seems Leeds have pulled off a superb piece of business. While the injuries continue to pile up at Leeds, Hernandez continues to be a steady performer.

TT Grade: B+

The Verdict

Dean Smith could have a huge talent on his hands. If Bolasie stays fit, he could be a star and has already shown that he, Tammy Abraham and Jack Grealish are a superb attacking trio. However, in Hernandez, Leeds possess one of the best players in the league.

He’s a consistent performer and looks as though he could guide Leeds back to the Premier League.
