TT Introduces: Aston Villa wonderkid Jacob Ramsey - Aston Villa

Aston Villa supporters in the Transfer Tavern are somewhat looking forward to the 2018/19 Championship season, what with their team seeking to bounce back from play-off heartache last time round.

Steve Bruce’s men produced a fine campaign to eventually finish fourth in the second tier and thus qualify for the end-of-season lottery, before beating Middlesbrough to reach the Wembley showpiece. However, the Villans were second-best at the national stadium back in May as a Tom Cairney strike was enough to seal victory for Slavisa Jokanovic’s Fulham, thus leaving Villa facing the prospect of another season in the Championship.

And with financial problems seeming to grip the Midlands giants, it remains to be seen whether they are able to sustain another promotion push this term, although it could pave the way for several young players to force their way into Bruce’s first team.

And following the success of Villa graduate Jack Grealish, who has this summer been linked with a move to the Premier League, many of our resident Villans are wondering who could be the next attacker to follow in his footsteps, with many believing that Jacob Ramsey could be that man.

The 17-year-old only lives a stone’s throw away from Villa Park and has slowly but surely made his way up through the ranks at the Midlands heavyweights, with the attacking midfielder a regular in their Under-18 side last time round.

And Ramsey was one of their most impressive performers over the course of the season in netting eight goals and laying on three assists in 22 Under-18 Premier League matches, which went some way to earning him a spot in the Under-23 side in their defeat to Brighton back in February of this year.

But with clear pedigree in the attacking midfield position, alongside having netted from the left wing and indeed in a more advanced central position, the 17-year-old seems to have it all for a big future in the game – potential that could be realised at Villa.

And given how well Grealish has developed since regularly turning out for the senior team at Villa Park, not least his three goals and six assists last time round in arguably his most impressive season to date, Ramsey could well be the next to follow in his footsteps and become a future star in the Villa first team.
