John McGinn managed to produce another strong display for Aston Villa despite the Villans losing 2-1 against Wolves on Sunday. We have taken a closer look at his performance at Molineux in the latest edition of our Unsung Hero feature.
Aston Villa suffered a third successive Premier League defeat on Sunday as they went down 2-1 against Wolves at Molineux (BBC Sport).
Dean Smith’s side weren’t really at the races against their local rivals, and goals from Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez ultimately sealed the points for last season’s FA Cup semi-finalists.
There were not many positives to take from the display for Villa. Trezeguet was the man who netted their consolation goal which will have gained him some plaudits, while John McGinn also did well despite being on the losing team.
The Scottish international was as busy as usual and involved in plenty of the play for his team. Indeed, he made one key pass in the match, whilst also playing five accurate long balls and completing five successful dribbles (via WhoScored).
Can Aston Villa keep hold of John McGinn long-term?
He also managed to make two successful tackles in the 90 minutes and ultimately finished with a WhoScored rating of 7.01, with only Trezeguet receiving higher.
McGinn has been one of Aston Villa’s most consistent performers this season. Indeed, he has already scored three goals and provided two assists in his 12 league appearances (Transfermarkt).
As shown by the stats he was once again one of their best performers at Molineux, and there is no doubt that he is one of their most important players right now.
