Villa fans loved Dean Smith’s honesty after home thrashing

Having recently been able to overcome Swansea 1-0 away from home, the Villains would have been confident of overcoming the Swans at Villa Park in the FA Cup 3rd round. However, they were well beaten as Graham Potter’s side ran out 3-0 winners. Dean Smith won’t be happy, but his honest comments afterwards went down well with the fans.

Since Dean Smith rocked up at Villa Park there has been a mixed reaction from the fans. There have been games where the Villains have been well behind their new man and believe he can be the man to take them back to the promised land after they were woefully relegated in 2016. However, yesterday wasn’t one of those days, and the fans will just be glad the shocking display was in the FA Cup.
The last three years on the bounce have seen Villa crash out of the FA Cup in the 3rd round, and whilst the competition is never the priority of a Championship side, it’s still disappointing for the supporters. Smith does get that though, and when speaking after the match he was honest and insightful, something that the home fans enjoyed seeing and hearing, even though they had just been smashed 3-0.

No sugar coating, nothing over the top, just good, measured honesty from Deano which is fantastic to see. Fully believe he IS the guy to really get us headed in a positive direction again long term.

Proper positive attitude and response to all questions. Certainly what this club needs and hope we have him at the helm for a Ferguson stint at the club. Time to put real foundations down with this chap #avfc for life

A good honest assessment of an underwhelming performance. In Smith we trust.

The Villains loved Smith’s honesty after the poor result but will be keen for a change sooner or later as they aim for promotion from the Championship in the next few seasons.
