Houllier hopes the pair can make up a new look front line for Villa following a host of lacklustre performances from an ageing John Carew.
Injuries to both Carew and England International Emile Heskey have left Villa bare this season up top. Gabriel Agbonlahor is currently carrying the front line alone despite only just recovering from a groin injury himself.
Ireland striker Keane has become surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane. Peter Crouch, Jermaine Defoe and even Roman Pavlyuchenko have preference over the former Liverpool forward. Despite once costing the Reds £20million, he could leave White Hart Lane for just £8million in January.
Frederic Piquionne became familiar with Houllier during his time in France. The Villa boss has been impressed with how the Frenchman has taken to English football.
The striker has been decent at West Ham this year and shown the odd flash of brilliance, Hammers fans may be sad to lose him. However, the London club are still strapped for cash and may consider accepting a bid in the region of £4.5million.
Though, a lot hangs on whether the Hammers can offload an unhappy Carlton Cole. If any club offers £10million for the striker’s services, it may see any deal for Piquionne fall through.
I’m sure this will be music to Villa fans ears, they seem to have everything else right but they just aren’t scoring enough goals. With a few tweaks up top, Villa could still make Europe. Fingers crossed for January eh boys?
On the subject of Robbie Keane, anyone seen his missus Claudine? Not bad at all Robbo mate. Click on the photo below to view the gallery.
