It’s safe to say that the club’s decision to appoint Dean Smith is starting to pay off as they’re on course to secure a place in the play-offs, having won their last six Championship fixtures.
Aston Villa surely can’t accept anything less than a play-off place having come so far in recent weeks, with Jack Grealish, John McGinn and Tammy Abraham constantly steering the ship.
Although, one slight worry for Villa fans is the future of Albert Adomah as his contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and Birmingham Live reported towards the end of last month that the club hasn’t yet opened formal talks with the winger over an extension.
Adomah offered very little towards the start of Smith’s reign at Villa Park but he’s developed into a key member in recent weeks, and he managed to score his second goal in his last three games last time out.
His recent rise in form surely must tempt Villa into opening formal talks over an extension on his current deal as his experience could prove crucial in the Premier League or the Championship next season.
More importantly, he’s set to play a huge part in the club’s play-off push from here on in until the end of the season.
He still has the pace and skill to trouble defenders and he’s starting to display his goalscoring ability, so securing an extension really is a no-brainer for the Midlands club. Aston Villa fans will agree that he’s done more than enough to deserve an extension and he still has plenty to offer at Villa Park.
