Aston Villa fans must feel like they’re in dreamland as things couldn’t have gone more perfectly in recent times in the Championship, with their side winning their last eight games.
Dean Smith deserves a lot of credit for Aston Villa’s progression throughout the current campaign as he’s had his back up against the ropes on a number of occasions.
Although, the Midlands club are set to face a big problem regardless of whether they secure promotion or not, as Tammy Abraham is set to return to Chelsea once his loan deal expires. And, with the Blues facing a transfer ban they may decide to make use of him at Stamford Bridge next season.
But, it looks as if Dean Smith already has a replacement on his radar, as according to The Mirror, Aston Villa are interested in signing Brentford’s Neal Maupay in the summer.
Of course, with Brentford currently sitting in the bottom half of the table with nothing really to play for from here on in until the end of the season, it’s extremely likely that Maupay will seek a move to a higher-ranked club.
Brentford signed the forward for just £1.8 million (as per Transfermarkt) so they could be set to make a large amount of profit if he ends up leaving this summer.
The 22-year-old would be the perfect addition at Villa Park as he’s shown he can score goals on a consistent basis and he’s able to provide for his teammates as well. And, Dean Smith could be the man to get the very best out of him as the pair enjoyed plenty of success together at Griffin Park.
Abraham has been good but Maupay currently has more goals and assists to his name, as well as the ability to wriggle out of situations and quick link-up play. So, fans at Villa Park would soon forget about the Englishman if Maupay joins in the summer, as he’s a very exciting player who has the potential to become a star.
But, the Villans may only be able to secure his services if promotion is achieved as he won’t want to stagnate in the Championship for too long.
