What does the future hold for Tammy Abraham?

What does the future hold for Tammy Abraham?

Aston Villa supporters have been in fine voice in recent times after seeing their team get back to winning ways in the Championship on Tuesday night.

Steve Bruce’s men went into their encounter with newly-promoted Rotherham United having failed to win any of their preceding five league games, thus increasing the pressure on manager Bruce. Yet the Villans finally got back to winning ways at Villa Park on Tuesday as goals from Tammy Abraham and Yannick Bolasie sealed a routine 2-0 win for the Midlands giants, thus moving them up to sixth place in the Championship table.

As such, there have been many delighted Villans supporters up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have been heaping praise on goal-scorer Abraham, who joined the club on loan from Premier League giants Chelsea in the last knockings of the summer window.

And with the 20-year-old clearly possessing a great deal of ability in the final third of the pitch, if he can get this season right at Villa Park, the striking sensation could well have the world at his feet.

Ultimately, the Englishman has come up through the ranks at Stamford Bridge, but like so many youngsters to have done the same at the West London club, he simply hasn’t been afforded the opportunity of regular first team football at Chelsea, earning just three appearances for the Blues.

Yet the 20-year-old enjoyed an excellent loan spell at Championship side Bristol City back in the 2016/17 season, netting 23 goals in just 41 league appearances for Lee Johnson’s team, with his goal-scoring exploits arguably the reason the Robins stayed in the division that year.

However, he didn’t have the best of seasons last time out at Premier League side Swansea City, bagging on just five occasions for the Swans in the league as they lost their top-flight status, and that is why this loan spell at Villa is so important for the striker as he seeks to begin showcasing his talents once again – after all, he already has two senior England caps to his name.

Many would argue that his struggles last term in a poor Swansea side suggest that he isn’t yet cut out for Premier League football, but at the age of 20 to still net five times in the top-flight isn’t a horrendous return, while moving to a promotion-chasing club in Villa will further underline his pedigree.

And based on his start for Bruce’s side, in netting once in his first two appearances, Abraham could be set for a very lucrative season at Villa Park, which can only be good news for the striker himself, in that he may return to Chelsea and be ready for first team football, but also for the Villans in their bid to return to the Premier League.

Thus, after a testing campaign last time round, the pressure is very much on the 20-year-old to deliver this term, and if he does indeed do that while on loan at the Midlands giants, he could well return to Chelsea with the world firmly at his feet.
