Aston Villa are looking very good ahead of the play-offs and they will sure hope to continue that form in order to gain promotion. What a job Dean Smith has done, right? Who could have thought this a few months ago? Brilliant, brilliant stuff.
Indeed, the turnaround in the last two months has obviously been nothing short of remarkable. Dean Smith and his team managed ten successive wins to fly from mid-table, all the way to 5th place.
Whether they actually manage to achieve promotion or not really is in the balance, with the play-offs known to be unpredictable. Though despite their unknown future, rumours continue to circulate around Villa Park as to who they may sign to better their chances in either division next season.
One name that seems to be a recurring (recently reported by CalcioMercato) one is Brentford centre-back Yoann Barbet, who could be a very sensible signing for Villa.
Barbet, (who is valued at (£900k on Transfermarkt) is a player Dean Smith will be familiar with, as too the Aston Villa fans.
The club were linked with Yoann Barbet back in the January transfer window but after staying put at Brentford, he will be free to leave at the end of the season when his contract expires.
Villa will surely be first in line to sign Barbet as the 25-year-old could be a solid addition. With 37 appearances to his name this season, the left-sided centre-back has been massively important for Brentford in allowing them to keep seven clean-sheets.
And seeing as currently, Aston Villa could lose as many as five centre-backs this summer, with all the loanees returning to their parent clubs and Micah Richards retiring, the need for Yoann Barbet is a pretty desperate one.
