The Daily Mail have exclusively revealed that a Porto winger might be on his way to the red side of Manchester.
For a fee of more than £30 million, James Rodriguez is the subject of a huge bid, but United will have to add another 33% to that fee if they want him.
With a buy out fee of £40 million, United will be forced to add another £10 million to their bid if they want to secure the signature of the Colombian international.
But with United and Sir Alex declaring their interest to sign a playmaking midfielder, buying Rodriguez for £40 million would be ridiculous.
Last season he appeared in 33 games, with 7 of them coming from being brought on as a substitute. Also, even though he scored 15 times which is superb for a left midfielder, he only assisted 1 goal. Considering he had the likes of Hulk and Janko in his team, this tally is not one which could help Rooney score the goals.
So apart from his lack of assists, he also lacks experience. At the age of 20, Rodriguez does not have the expansive knowlegde of the Champions League or major European competitions which Nani has. Last season, Nani scored 11 goals but assisted 14 times. Even though he started 36 games and came on as a substitute 8 times, if Rodriguez only assisted 1 goal in all his appearances, the difference of around 10 games would not make that big of a difference in the overall point made.
With this target’s release clause estimated to cost the whole summer budget, it would be a foolish move to buy Rodriguez for this price.
