There seems to be more rivalry than unity amongst the two Polish goalkeepers at Arsenal.
Fabianski believes that he should be number 1 for both club and country instead of compatriot Wojciech Szczesny.
Fabianski lost his place after suffering a shoulder injury in the warm up before facing Manchester City. He hasn’t played since January 5th due to Szczesny’s rise to fame and doesn’t look likely to play any time sooner after the way Szczesny has been playing.
According to Fabianski, he believes Szczesny is lucky to be number 1 and if it wasn’t for his injury he would still be number 1 choice as the Arsenal goalkeeper. Fabianski will do everything in his power to regain that spot, but it will take a lot of willpower to beat Szczesny who has really warmed to the Arsenal fans.
Fabianski is desperately fighting to go to the Euros and knows his only chance of going is to reclaim his spot. I wonder if he would spare any remorseful feelings if something were to happen to Szczesny like an injury or howler.
Fabianski said: “If I had not been injured in January, then I would still be No.1 at Arsenal”.
“Ever since I have been fighting for my place and I can win this competition.”
“Poland goalkeeping coach Jacek Kazimierski said whoever lost the race to be Arsenal keeper won’t go to the Euros.”
