Atletico Madrid ready to activate Chelsea star’s £28m release clause

Costa 5Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are bracing themselves for a high-profile exit from their club after reports suggested the player’s release clause would be met.

Mundo Deportivo state Atletico Madrid are ready to activate Diego Costa’s £28m release clause and bring the striker back to the Spanish capital, after a controversial two seasons in Premier League football.

The 27-year-old was on-fire in his inaugural season in England, helping to fire Chelsea towards the league title, but he’s endured a barren start to the new campaign- which has capped off a disappointing 2015.

On top of the poor form, Costa has come under immense criticism for his behaviour this season and the latest scandal took place at the weekend where he threw his bib at manager Jose Mourinho.

With just four goals this season for the struggling Blues, Costa’s place in the side is under threat as Chelsea plot January activity but Atletico will offer him an escape route, bringing him back to the side where he played a huge part in the 2013/14 La Liga success.

Our Chelsea regulars are having a darts competition as they enjoy the midweek break from football and have unanimously agreed that Costa should be offloaded, believing he provides a poisonous impact to the squad.

Chelsea fans, would you be happy to see Costa leave? Let us know in the comments below!
